Congratualtions to 12-year-old Allison Wolfe, the Family Beat Kid of the Month for December!
Allison, or Allie, as she prefers to be called, was born with a series of heart defects and, as a result, has undergone an angioplasty and three open heart surgeries at Boston Children's Hospital.
She is a medical miracle ... but beyond that, she is the hero of her mother, Amy, who nominated her. She goes through medical test after medical test and yet she doesn't let that define who she is as a person. She wakes up every morning with a big smile on her face and heads off to school, determined to be just like any other seventh-grader at Herberg Middle School, even auditioning and landing a role in the upcoming school play!
Outside of school, Allie advocates with the American Heart Association and shares her cardiac story on a statewide and national level with a goal of having automated external defibrillators (AEDs) in all schools. After having a wish granted with the Make A Wish Foundation, Allie began sharing the power of a wish with Macy's department stores for the "Believe" campaign, which donates money to help make other children's wishes come true, and our own local Macy's adopted her as sort of an honorary Macy's employee (badge and all!).
Throughout Allie's ongoing medical roller coaster, she has found a way to not only live with Heart Disease, but to bring awareness and to help
