There are a host of holidays ahead. Here are some interesting facts about some of them:

* Bill of Rights Day, Dec. 15: The Constitution of the United States of America was ratified on March 4, 1789. However, it was understood that a Bill of Rights, which would spell out freedoms guaranteed to the people, would be added. Twelve amendments were proposed; 10 of them were added on this day in 1791, 220 years ago today.

* Festivus, Dec. 23: Are you looking for a non-denominational winter holiday? Check out Festivus. First observed in 1966, Festivus gained popularity when it was featured on "Seinfeld" in 1997. With its aluminum pole, feats of strength and airing of grievances, perhaps this holiday is for you.

* Martin Luther King Day, Jan. 16: Celebrated the third Monday in January, this became a national holiday by an act of Congress in 1983. King became the youngest person to win the Nobel Peace Prize when he received it at age 35.

* Squirrel Appreciation Day, Jan. 21: Begun in 2001 by wildlife rehabilitator Christy Hargrove of Asheville, N.C., today is a day to give your squirrely friends a little extra treat when food can be hard for them to find -- or to just spend a little time learning more about them.
